The Humane Society of Tampa Bay wants you to ring in the New Year by making a resolution to neuter your male dog or cat during their “Happy Neuter Year” campaign.
Sponsored by PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of animal welfare efforts in North America, the “Happy Neuter Year,” campaign will provide $20 neuter surgeries for male dogs and cats during the month of January.
Spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population and is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.
“Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors, like roaming, fighting, and urine marking territories,” says Sherry Silk, HSTB Executive Director. “It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens.”
This special $20 rate is even less than the organization’s normal low-cost price and is available to all residents of Hillsborough County. Pet parents who wish to take advantage of this offer must mention the “Happy Neuter Year” campaign when they schedule their appointment. This campaign is based on availability.

PetSmart Charities’ “Happy Neuter Year” campaign provides more than $561,000 to spay/neuter clinics to fund affordable, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries for 13,631 male dogs and cats across the nation during the month of January.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners voted to amend county ordinances allowing for the trap/neuter/vaccinate/return of up to 4,000 feral and stray cats in the next two years as part of a pilot program. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay will assist in the effort by providing TNVR services to feral cats impounded at Hillsborough County Animal Services beginning in January 2014.
In June we lost our only child – our beautiful calico we had adopted when we were married 15 years ago. We were heartbroken and the house was so empty without that little ball of fur. We had loved her so much we couldn’t even imagine having another pet that would come close to having such a big part of our hearts. And there wasn’t….there were two!
We saw Rosie and Bogart online and knew we had to come see them immediately. My husband wasn’t too sold on getting new kids so fast (we had just lost our baby that week) but I knew, in my heart, when I saw their little scared faces in their online photos that they were for us. We drove over after work and within two minutes of being in the room with them, I asked my husband what he thought. His reply was “I think they are pretty much perfect”. That was the beginning of the new loves of our lives.
Rosie and Bogart adopted us more than we adopted them. Rosie is a total daddy’s girl and Bogart is my momma’s boy. They both snuggle on the couch with us every night and in bed with us in the mornings. We just celebrated our six month anniversary with them and we can’t believe how it feels like they have always been a part of us. We are so happy with our little family.
We cannot express our appreciation for all that your organization does. We are all truly blessed to have you.
