Feral Cat Programs (Cats Arriving in Traps)

All cats arriving at the clinic for spay/neuter in a trap, will receive FVRCP vaccine. Cats that weigh over 3 lbs will also receive a rabies vaccine with supporting certificate as well as the left ear being tipped (national symbol of a sterile, vaccinated feral cat). For any cat over 3 lbs, ear tipping is MANDATORY.

Kittens must weigh a minimum of 2 lbs. to have surgery. Ear tipping is OPTIONAL on all cats between 2 and 3 lbs.

We recommend testing for FELV/FIV AT THE TIME OF SURGERY. If the test results are positive for FELV OR FIV, with the caregiver’s authorization, the cat will be humanly euthanized at no charge. The cost to the caregiver for the test is $13.00 this price is only available at the time of surgery. The decision to euthanize if test results are positive must be made at check in. Should the caretaker indicate they will take home a cat testing positive and later decide to euthanize the charge will be $55.00.

Medications are administered based on exam results. There are occasions when it is recommended that prescription medications be sent home with the caregiver. At pick up the caregiver will be consulted as to whether or not they want to purchase and administer the prescribed drugs.

Feral cats are accepted on Monday’s with a reservation which is obtained by calling MARY ANN O’DONNELL at 813-625-0910.

There are also 10 appointment slots available Tuesday-Friday. These are made available to people with conflicting schedules, pregnant cats and cats that are extremely difficult to trap. The clinic has domestic animals, shelter animals, emergency surgeries as well as the additional feral cats.
