Sherry Silk, Executive Director
Sherry has worked in animal welfare for over 32 years. She was Operations Manager for the Michigan Humane Society in Detroit for most of her career. She oversaw the cruelty investigation and rescue divisions as well as managed the urban shelter with over 22,000 animals. She appeared on Animal Planet’s Detroit Animal Cops for several years. She has extensive experience with the media and did weekly adoption and animal segments on Fox 2 Detroit for many years. Prior to becoming the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, she worked as an Outreach Manager for the ASPCA. She covered 6 states in the southern region providing assistance, guidance and information to animal welfare organizations as well as conducting workshops on adoptions, humane care of shelter animals and collaborations with municipal and non-profit animal welfare groups.
Sherry has served on the No More Homeless Pets-Hillsborough County board, the CHAART (Community of Hillsborough Animal and Agricultural Response Team) and served on the board of Mission Meow (Managing and Ending Overpopulation Wisely), a group dedicated to educating the public regarding community cats. She is currently the President of the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organization (FAAWO), a state wide coalition of animal welfare and protection agencies. She also serves on the Humane Society of United States Companion Animals Advisory Council and represents the State of Florida.
She is married and has 2 adult children. She shares her home with two terrier mixes and two cats, which were all adopted.
