Foster Military Pets

Foster Military Pets

Pedigree® Brand and Winn-Dixie have teamed up to help our military service men and women who have been deployed and need someone to foster their pet while serving our great country.

They have also joined forces with Rescuing Animals in Nassau in N.E. Florida and Southeast Georgia and with The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, in South and Central Florida, to match the military pets with loving foster families to care for the service members pet while they are deployed.

I moved to Tampa last fall to attend the University of South Florida. I had to spend my first year in the dorms (meaning no dog for me). This proved to be the hardest part of college for me: not having a dog. I luckily found doggie companionship by volunteering here at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay my entire freshman year. But I was still counting down the days until I could get my own off-campus apartment and adopt a pup of my own.

Finally, the time had arrived! I came back to Tampa to begin my sophomore year. I had told myself I would wait a little and get settled in before adopting. But of course, my first day back volunteering I saw this beautiful little black lab mix. She was perfect. But I decided to go home, and not make a rash decision. As soon as I came home I just gushed to my roommate about this little doggie named Erin. After about an hour of me chattering away about this dog, she said, “That’s it! We’re going back to the Humane Society right now! You’re getting that dog!”

The rest is history. Erin has been the absolute joy of my life these past three months. She is everything and then some that I had hoped for in my dog. Every day I find myself falling more and more in love with her. Everyone who meets Erin immediately falls in love with her and says she is the best mannered dog they’ve ever met and they ask where I bought her! I tell them I would never buy a dog! Adoption is the only way for me! I send everyone I know looking for a furry friend HSTB’s way! I could not be any happier with my decision to adopt Erin. I can’t wait to have a family of my own one day and know that Erin will be there with me every step of the way!

Thank you so much HSTB!
