Food Assistance
Our Food Assistance program is dedicated to Casper, who nearly starved to death because his owners didn't feed him. Please donate food and help us fill "Casper's Cupboard". We are running very low on food for the community. YOU can make a difference by donating pet food today.
Due to the number of animals that have been relinquished to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for economic reasons, either because owners have lost their home and had to move into a smaller place that will not allow their pets or because they do not have the money to feed and care for their pets, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has started a Food Assistance Program.
Anyone who needs food for their pet can come to the shelter at 3607 N. Armenia Avenue during normal business hours and pick up food for their dogs or cats. All that is required is the owner's name, address and the number of dogs and/or cats they are feeding. This information is taken for statistical purposes only and not released to any other agency.
RESULTS:
In 2008 we provided over 750 families with free pet food, enabling them to keep their pets rather than give them up during financial struggles. 50,870 lbs of food were given away in 2008.
Thru May of 2009 we helped over 2,000 families, giving away over 110,000lbs of food. We're not going to stop there! We will continue helping our friends and supporters of the community during these hard economic times.
Anyone wishing to help their neighbors can send a check (or donate online) to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, 3607 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, FL 33607 or drop off bags and cans of dog or cat food at our shelter. Any size or brand of food is acceptable. Kitten food, puppy food, cat litter, dog biscuits, and cat treats are also welcome.
