Adoption FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions for Adoptions
What Does The Adoption Fee Cover?
Each HSTB adoptable has been vaccinated, health-checked, de-wormed, de-fleaed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered prior to placement. Pets who are four months of age or older receive a rabies vaccine. All dogs receive a DHLPP vaccine and are heartworm-tested at five months of age or older. All cats are tested for FeLv and cats 6 months of age and older are tested for FIV.
A checkup with your veterinarian is required within 30 days of placement in your home. A veterinarian can setup your new pet’s account, perform a thorough evaluation, and determine if any additional vaccines are necessary for your pet’s protection. You are welcome to visit our veterinarian at the HSTB Wellness Clinic for this service or one of the many area veterinarians that provide a free initial health evaluation for pets adopted from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
Are you ready to adopt a pet?
Come prepared by printing the paperwork and bringing the completed forms with you. You can print the Adoption Form by clicking here.
What else should you bring with you?
If you rent a house or apartment please provide paperwork that states it is ok for you to have a pet.
If you are interested in adopting a dog and you already have a dog(s) at home you are encouraged to bring them with you for a meet and greet with the potential new family member. It is very important that your current pets are up to date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative. We ask that you please DO NOT bring cats in for meet and greets.

Volunteer Photographers
We’re lucky to have several professional photographers who donate their time and talent to help the animals. Brian Kalish and Krista Sparkman capture our adorable adoptables on camera and share the photos with us so we can add them to each pet’s bio. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of homeless pets Brian and Krista!

Happy Tail # 148

We adopted “Dina” at the adoption event on Nov. 5. She took to us and our other dog, Teddy, immediately. Teddy loves her and they play like two 10-year old boys. She’s 7 years younger than he is and runs rings around him in the yard but he is so happy. I’m attaching a couple pics of her in the back yard and on the bridge over our fish pond. We have renamed her “April” and she loves to run as fast as she can from one end of the yard to the other. Good thing our backyard is fenced. She’s fun to watch.~Kathy Andrews
