My story is probably a very common one, but still should be told. I had a German Shepherd/Husky mix from his 8 week birthday until he was 15-1/2 years old. The loss of my best friend, Buster, really put me in the dumps – there was a sadness that really blanketed my heart. I wasn’t sure I could ever go through anything like that loss again. My boyfriend and my son somehow talked me into visiting The Humane Society – just to pet the dogs & play with them for a little bit. When I got there I saw Santana (now named Beauregard), he was a sweet, gentle, and beautiful 7 month old German Shepherd. The volunteer told me his sad story & I knew he was mine! We took him that day to his new forever home. Beau became an immediate member of the family – he protects us all & would never pass up a good game of fetch! If I move, he moves, some days I feel like he is an extra limb or a shadow as he stays so close. I’ve realized that although there is a lot of pain with the loss of a pet, there is nothing that can surpass the joy of the love that they provide. I will always have a dog in my home & in my heart!

Beau will be 4yrs old on December 21st 2011 & he now also has a few furry friends that have also captured our hearts as his brothers – Bentley a stray that was left on the streets (Karin Terrier mix), Bastian – a Australian Shepherd mix from the SPCA, and we bought him another German Shepherd brother, Boomer, mostly because of how much we fell in love with Beau! I can’t thank you all enough for what you do everyday – protecting & saving all of these loveable furry friends!!
