On Wednesday, October 11, 2012 more than 500 guests attended the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s (HSTB) annual Passion for Pets Luncheon held at the Hyatt Regency Tampa. The Luncheon featured presentations by Harry Cohen, Tampa City Councilman; Sherry Silk, HSTB Executive Director; Ornella Varchi, HSTB Volunteer and Outreach Manager; and Mary Birrell, Vice President, HSTB Board of Directors. Lindsay Milbourne, Fox 13 Meteorologist and News Reporter, served as the event emcee. Tampa City Councilwoman and HSTB Advisory Board Member Yvonne Yolie Capin acted as spokesperson for the luncheon. And, of course, plenty of adorable adoptables were on hand to steal the show.

Through the generous support of the attendees the Society raised $214,000 through pledges, sponsorships and matching gifts. All monies raised at the luncheon will directly support the life-saving programs at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay such as homeless pet transfers and adoptions, free pet food assistance, affordable veterinary and spay/neuter services, trap/neuter/vaccinate/return services for feral cats, and community outreach and educational efforts.

“We are so grateful to the Tampa Bay community for their continued support and generosity,” said Humane Society of Tampa Bay Executive Director Sherry Silk. “Because of their overwhelming kindness, we will be able to save the lives of more animals in need and our core programs and services will remain vibrant.”
