Thanks to a generous grant from Banfield Charitable Trust, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay now has sponsorship for purchasing dog and cat food for their Animeals program.

This vital community initiative enables homebound individuals to keep their furry companions even if they are unable to leave the house to buy pet food. Once a month, volunteers deliver free pet food to homebound and elderly residents on a fixed income in Hillsborough County. Banfield’s grant of $5,000 will go a long way to provide assistance to the more than 125 households that utilize this program each month.

Thank you, Banfield Charitable Trust!

Saturday, March 2, 2013, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay held the 26th annual “Bark in the Park Fundraising Walk for the Animals” at Al Lopez Park. The event was a huge success, raising nearly $90,000 which will directly benefit our animals, programs, and services. Hundreds of dog-lovers and their four-legged friends braved the cold weather to participate in the one-mile walk and enjoy the festivities.
Again this year, Al Lopez Park was transformed into “Dogtown U.S.A.”, a neighborhood full of fun for children, adults and dogs alike. Participants and their pets visited Vendor Village, Rescue Row, Shop-til-You-Drop Street and Agility Avenue, among many other areas, and took part in Pet Costume/Talent contests. FOX13’s Charley Belcher served as the official event emcee, accompanied by his faithful sidekick and former HSTB adoptable, Tonka. The Tampa Bay Rays, HOT 101.5, Busch Gardens, Doggie Fun Zone and more than 70 vendors were on site along with adorable adoptables from HSTB and 13 other rescue groups.
Top sponsors for the event were PetSupermarket, Vivint, Petco Foundation and Mastro Subaru.
Also, the third annual “Run to Remember” 5K in memory of Alexis Saunders was held prior to the Walk for the Animals, at 9:00am, also at Al Lopez Park. Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
