happyneuteryearwebThe Humane Society of Tampa Bay wants you to ring in the New Year by making a resolution to neuter your male dog or cat during their “Happy Neuter Year” campaign.
Sponsored by PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of animal welfare efforts in North America, the “Happy Neuter Year,” campaign will provide $20 neuter surgeries for male dogs and cats during the month of January.
Spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population and is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.
“Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors, like roaming, fighting, and urine marking territories,” says Sherry Silk, HSTB Executive Director. “It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens.”
This special $20 rate is even less than the organization’s normal low-cost price and is available to all residents of Hillsborough County. Pet parents who wish to take advantage of this offer must mention the “Happy Neuter Year” campaign when they schedule their appointment. This campaign is based on availability.
Please visit call 813.870.3304 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
PetSmart Charities’ “Happy Neuter Year” campaign provides more than $561,000 to spay/neuter clinics to fund affordable, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries for 13,631 male dogs and cats across the nation during the month of January.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners voted to amend county ordinances allowing for the trap/neuter/vaccinate/return of up to 4,000 feral and stray cats in the next two years as part of a pilot program. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay will assist in the effort by providing TNVR services to feral cats impounded at Hillsborough County Animal Services beginning in January 2014.

Little Willie was left in a cardboard box by a dumpster at the back of our property. His back legs were paralyzed but his sweet spirit was not broken and he quickly touched our hearts. After several weeks of TLC, meds and therapy, he started to wag his tail and to regain some use of one leg. Then, he got his very own set of wheels, kindly donated by the good folks at For Paws Hospice, and was zipping around the shelter in no time.
After spending nearly a month with us recovering and gaining strength, a chance meeting with a Dachshund lover gave him the greatest Holiday gift- a forever home. Watch the coverage below to see his amazing story!
