On Friday, November 25, 2016, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay will be offering 75% off adoption fees for dogs, rabbits, and pocket pets over 4 months old. Adoption fees for cats over 4 months old will be just $5. The Society will be open for extended hours, from 10am to 7pm, and hopes to clear the shelter so that they can help more animals in need.

In addition to the adoption specials, the shelter will be decorated for the holidays and volunteers will be “Grillin & Chillin” from 10am to 3pm so that visitors can grab lunch or a snack while they visit with animals and adopt new family members.

We encourage adopters to arrive early as lines will form well before opening. View our adoptable pets.

Media is invited to attend. Staff will be available for interviews. Media contact: 813-774-4313

Tonight we #GiveThanks for our amazing Adoption Coordinators! This devoted group is the “face of our shelter” and provides our visitors with smiles, advice, and forever family members! They are dedicated advocates for our animals and take the time to get to know each of them so that they can find their perfect fits. These guys and gals make dreams come true, for pets AND people. #WeAreHSTB #CountdownToThanksgiving

Today we #GiveThanks for our administrative staff for all they do to help keep our programs up and running. These are the dedicated and loyal folks who pay the bills, train and manage staff and volunteers, plan events and outreach, connect with donors and supporters, market our good work, facilitate reporting, write grants, represent HSTB in the community, and do whatever else is necessary to ensure that our mission is carried out and that we continue to save 7,500+ lives every year. Thanks in large part to their diligence and commitment, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has been named a 4-Star Charity by Charity Navigator for the last 8 years, an accomplishment achieved by only 2% of charities nationwide. #CountdownToThanksgiving #WeAreHSTB

Tonight we #GiveThanks for our amazing Animal Health Center staff. This dedicated group of people works long, hard hours caring for the owned pets of Tampa Bay so that they stay healthy, happy, and in their homes! Last year they served nearly 40,000 pets and this year will see even more. The work they do provides a vital service- affordable veterinary care- to the community while helping to support our homeless pets at the shelter. #CountdownToThanksgiving #WeAreHSTB

Today we #GiveThanks for the CHILDREN of Tampa Bay! At the shelter, we are constantly blessed by young people with tender hearts and generous spirits. Some of them collect donations for our pets instead of birthday gifts; some raise money through lemonade stands, bake sales, or classroom projects; some read to our pets and keep them company in our Paws For Literacy program; some adopt; some take part in our Critter Camp; some have their birthday parties at our shelter; some make toys, blankets, or treats for our pets, some come for holiday photos to support our pets, and some just come by to sit with our pets and give them some love. Whatever gift they bring, we are touched and encouraged by their kindness. We tried to include every picture of children in action that we’ve taken this year, but if we somehow missed your cool kiddo, please post their photo in the comments. #CountdownToThanksgiving #WeAreHSTB

Today we #GiveThanks for our wonderful shelter and intake staff. These dedicated individuals (not all are pictured here) work hard day in and day out to care for our animals and maintain our property. They do the difficult, unglamorous, smelly, hot, exhausting work that it takes to make sure that hundreds of animals every day have safe, clean living spaces, food, medicines, and the social interactions they need to thrive. They are the often overlooked heroes who climb into kennels to comfort sick and frightened animals, field hundreds of heartbreaking phone calls and emails a day, console grieving owners, administer medications, patch up a decades-old building in the blazing Florida heat, and so much more. Their jobs MAKE A DIFFERENCE for animals in need. Please thank them and, if you know one of them, tag them! #CountdowntoThanksgiving #WeAreHSTB

#Thanksgiving is a week away and we’ll be celebrating with a #CountdownToThanksgiving– a daily post about what we are most grateful for. We’ll start the countdown by giving thanks for our adopters, without whom, NOTHING we do would be possible. These are just a few of the thousands of wonderful people who’ve opened their hearts and homes to animals in need. If you adopted a pet from us please post YOUR photo in the comments so we can thank you too! #ThankYou #WeAreHSTB

We received nearly 1,000 applications and know that many will be disappointed that they were not able to adopt. We hope those who weren’t selected will consider adoption another one of our wonderful homeless animals or visit another shelter or rescue group to give a home to a pet in need. PRE-ADOPTIONS NOW AVAILABLE FOR CHOCOLATE LAB/PIT BULL MIX PUPPIES. Application link, please read carefully and follow instructions:…/

Originally we stated that potential adopters must come to the shelter on the morning of 11/25/16 to be considered as adopters for one of the Chocolate Lab/Pit Bull Terrier mix puppies. We did not anticipate the sheer volume of response we have received which is currently at well over 1,000 inquiries. For the safety of our animals, property, and the public, we have decided to offer pre-adoption approval in order to avoid people camping out on our property, long lines, and bitter disappointment on Black Friday. We believe this is the most fair way to handle the situation.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 5:00PM SATURDAY, 11/19/16. We will approve qualified applications on a first come, first served basis. The approved adopters will be notified no later than 12:00pm on Tuesday, 11/23/2016. Adopters must come to the shelter on 11/25 to finalize the paperwork and take home their puppy. We will not hold puppies.

*Please note that due to varied rates of growth of the puppies, all 12 may not be available on 11/25 but will be available to go home soon thereafter.
