December 15, 2017 Roscoe was brought to our animal health center after being shot in the face while protecting his home from a burglary. Dr. Justin Boorstein immediately performed surgery to repair internal damage around his esophagus. While we are hopeful for recovery, Roscoe’s prognosis will be touch and go for the next few days. He is being kept at our animal health center for observation.

Because of the owner’s financial situation, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay is providing the surgery and aftercare using funds from our Save-A-Pet Medical Fund. This fund is supported by donations which can be made HERE.

There is nothing our pets love more than some one-on-one attention, especially when it’s given by a child. Our Paws for Literacy Program pairs children ages 5 – 12 with adoptable pets so they can practice their reading in a positive, fun environment. Whether your child wants to brush up on their literacy skills or simply loves animals and reading, we hope you’ll consider enrolling them in this important initiative. It’s a perfect activity to help fill their time during the holiday break and into the new year.

Paws for Literacy sessions are held weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45pm to 5:00pm and are supervised by a certified teacher. Each session includes reading time and humane education. For more information or to enroll your child, email our Education Coordinator (below) or call 813.774.4344.
