Senator Dana Young will join representatives from Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to welcome the Greyhound Friendship Bus to the Tampa Bay area. The bus has been touring the state to promote a “YES” vote on amendment 13 which would phase out greyhound racing in the sunshine state. Today’s stop in Tampa corresponds with the release of the campaign’s statewide TV Ad statewide TV Ad documenting greyhound deaths and confinement practices. The previously embargoed ad will be shown at the event.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay supports voting “yes” on amendment 13 and stands ready to help in any way needed, including sheltering dogs released from the racing industry.
Amendment 13 is a Constitutional Amendment to phase out greyhound racing in Florida by December 31, 2020. It will appear on the November 2018 ballot. Thousands of greyhounds endure lives of confinement and poor treatment at Florida racetracks, and every three days a racing greyhound dies.
The Protect Dogs – Yes on 13 campaign is releasing a statewide television advertisement, entitled “People.” The ad will air in six markets statewide. It documents the death of a greyhound named B’s Moody Too, who was destroyed after suffering a broken leg during a race at Orange Park on July 19, 2017. “People” also contains footage of greyhound confinement that was released by the Sanford Orlando Kennel Club in 2014 and referred to as the “truth” about dog racing, as well as a still image of greyhound confinement taken by an industry supporter at Orange Park in 2017.
