Over the last century, there have been countless families and individuals that found their forever friend at our shelter – and you could be one of them! If you are interested in Pasco County pet adoption, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is proud to support our surrounding communities, including Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, and more.

There is much to look forward to when deciding to adopt an animal in need of love and care. Read on to learn more about what you should expect throughout the adoption process.

Adopting a Dog

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has many playful dogs who are excited to meet you! Each of these dogs has a unique, loving personality that is sure to add something special to your life. To see the adoptable dogs available today, you can find an updated list on our website. You can also pay a visit to the shelter to play, pet, and spend time with any animal that you are drawn to.

Each of the shelter dogs at The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is spayed/ neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed so that they are ready to be taken home to begin their new journey. Once you find the dog (or several dogs!) that you connect with most, you can then meet with an adoption coordinator who will walk you through the rest of the adoption process.

This process includes reviewing all necessary care information and answering any questions that you may have. After you finish the adoption process, it is time to take your new family member home and begin making memories together!

Adopting a Cat

If you consider yourself a cat person, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has many kittens and grown cats waiting to be adopted. These cats are loving and in need of a forever home.

Just like the dog adoption process, the cat adoption process at HSTB is simple and stress-free. When you visit The Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s cat adoption page, you will find a list of all of the cats currently available for adoption. Each of the cats at HSTB is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed.

It is highly recommended that you come in and play with any of the shelter cats that capture your heart online. You’ll love petting, playing with, and spending time getting to know each of these sweet kitties.

In addition, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay also offers a working cats program, where feral or semi-feral cats can be adopted at no charge to families with barns, outbuildings, sheds, garages, and more. Your new working cat will help with pest control and keeping farm animals company, and is sure to be your cutest employee ever! In return, you will provide them with daily food, water, and a safe, comfortable place to sleep.

Adopting a Rabbit or Pocket Pet

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay also offers adoptions for shelter rabbits and pocket pets, such as guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, chinchillas and hedgehogs, potbelly pigs, and birds. These small animals may not take up as much space as a dog or cat would, but will still give you just as much love. The adoptable pocket pets and rabbits are frequently updated on the HSTB website so that you can find the perfect pet for you!

Like the dogs and cats, most shelter rabbits and pocket pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and dewormed, so all you have to do is complete the adoption process and take your new companion home.

When you are ready to adopt your rabbit or pocket pet, you will meet with an adoption coordinator to complete the necessary paperwork, go over important adoption information, and ask any questions that you may have. Then, you are ready to begin your lifetime of love together!
